10 Best Moving Tips

Most people find moving very stressful and overwhelming. Packing, organizing, transporting and attempting your friends to help you move – the whole process can seem daunting , but if you use some of these tricks you can make your relocation process a breeze.

1. Find free moving boxes

You can save a little cash and acquire all the boxes you need for free. There are some places where you can find all the boxes you need to pack your items. Best places are the “free” section on Craigslist, grocery and clothing stores and warehouse style stores.

2. Get rid of your items

Now that you are sorting through all your things, it is a perfect time to see what can be donated or given away! Make an effort to pare down your possessions so your move will be a lot easier and your new home will be less cluttered.

3. Create a moving schedule

Plan ahead! You need to make a moving plan so you can be in control of the moving process. Be aware that you have to defrost, clean your fridge 24-48 hours before the moving date. Otherwise, you can have a problem in moving it.

4. Pack an overnight box

Most people don’t think to do this and end up going through several boxes and bags on the moving day to get their pajamas, toiletries or the coffee maker. Pack yourself a first night vox, with all your toiletries, medicine and some clothes. You can even pack a small bag to pack all the items that you need.

5. Put hanging clothes in bags

Keep your clothes on the hager, but wrapped up. When you get to your new location, simply take of the bags. Don’t forget to label them so you won’t throw them away. If you scheduled with a moving company ask them for wardrobe boxes. It is the safest way to move your precious clothes.

6. Don’t mix items from different rooms

Keep items from one room in boxes separate from boxes from other rooms. In that way you can be sure that you won’t mix anything and won’t get confused while moving them. Another good advice is to label the boxes with specific colors for each room.

7. Schedule time off work

With a full-time job, the weekend is the most convenient time to move. But if you cram a whole move into 2 days, Monday may seem like a bad idea to go to work. Give yourself an extra day to pack or unpack the items when you arrive to avoid the stress.

8. Hire movers as soon as you know the moving date

Movers can get booked months in advance. Our tip is, if you know what day you have in mind for your relocation, hire a professional moving company as soon as you can. That way you can organize all the other details of the move in advance and without any stress.

9. Transfer your utilities by the time you need to move

Make sure that you transfer the utilities before you close escrow. Besides gas, water and electric, it could take anywhere between a few days and a couple of weeks to get them up and running. So, you better schedule them as soon as you know what day you are moving in.

10. Keep your important documents with you

Don’t risk misplacing your documents, employment records, tax documents etc. so you don’t lose them during the move. Get a separate container to hold the important documents and keep it safe. So, if you find these tips helpful, think how much it would be great if you talk to a professional relocation specialist that has all the answers to your questions.
